Our Core Principle: Privacy by Design

LangsAny is built on a fundamental principle: your data stays in your browser. When you use our "Bring Your Own Key" mode, your API key and translation content never touch our servers. This is not just a policy — it is enforced by our architecture.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information We Do NOT Collect

When using the "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) mode, we do not collect, store, or process:

  • Your API keys
  • Your translation content (source text or translated results)
  • Personal information (names, emails, accounts)
  • Usage analytics tied to your identity

1.2 Technical Information

Our web server may process standard HTTP request information (IP addresses, user agents) as part of normal web traffic. This data is:

  • Used solely for serving web pages and preventing abuse
  • Not linked to any personal identity
  • Not stored long-term or shared with third parties

2. How Your API Key Is Handled

When you provide an API key through our Settings page:

  1. Encryption: Your API key is encrypted using AES-256-GCM encryption with PBKDF2 key derivation (100,000 iterations) before being stored.
  2. Local Storage: The encrypted key is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device to reach our servers.
  3. Direct API Calls: When you translate, your browser decrypts the key in memory and makes a direct HTTPS request to the AI provider (e.g., OpenAI). Our server is not in the data path.
  4. Deletion: You can delete your stored key at any time from the Settings page, which permanently removes it from your browser.

3. Translation Content

When using BYOK mode, your translation text:

  • Is sent directly from your browser to the AI API provider via HTTPS
  • Does not pass through LangsAny servers
  • Is not logged, stored, or cached by us
  • Is subject to the privacy policy of your chosen AI provider (e.g., OpenAI's data usage policy)

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser localStorage to save:

  • Your encrypted API configuration (AES-256-GCM encrypted)
  • Your language preferences and selected default languages
  • Temporary session data (e.g., preserving your input text when navigating to Settings)

We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics services that identify individual users.

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 AI API Providers

When you use your own API key, your browser communicates directly with the AI provider you have configured (e.g., OpenAI, OpenRouter, Together AI). Their respective privacy policies govern how they handle your data.

5.2 Advertising

We may display third-party advertisements on our website. These ad networks may use cookies or similar technologies. We do not share any personal data with advertisers.

6. Data Security

We implement security measures including:

  • AES-256-GCM encryption for API key storage
  • PBKDF2 key derivation with 100,000 iterations
  • HTTPS-only communication for all API requests
  • Client-side architecture that prevents server-side data exposure

7. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed at anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. International Users

LangsAny is accessible globally. By using our Service, you acknowledge that your browser will communicate directly with the AI API provider you configure, which may be located in a different jurisdiction.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

You have full control over your data:

  • View: Check your stored settings in your browser's developer tools
